Founders Day Message 2023

Founders Day Message 2023

Celebrations are an important event in that they offer mindful recognition for a meaningful event or an important mile stone.

Founders Day is a day where I renew my commitment to serving you and to those suffering. It is also a time of mindful reflection on all of the good Blue Lotus Meditation and Mindfulness Center has provided individuals, our community, and the world. Although our practitioners come from all over the world, varying occupations and ages, they all experience suffering. Through Buddhas teachings, we have helped ease the suffering of people coping with addiction, trauma, homelessness, anxiety, stress, relationships, and PTSD to name only a few.

Our Founder
The work and support we offer is important and meaningful.

And, most importantly, there is never a fee for any of our offerings.

How we serve others.

Each week we offer virtual sangha's for those that may have experienced trauma, LGBQT+ community, veterans, teens, and a general 'welcoming' sangha. All meetings are conducted via Skype and anonymity, if desired, is always maintained.

We also offer several developmental classes, Resiliency+, for example. Being resilient is important to survival however when one only survives one misses the true beauty that is around us, even during those hard times.

Our Sutra Study is a weekly meeting where were explore one of the 84,000 Buddhist sutras, their meaning, and how they provide a necessary vehicle for beings to walk a noble path towards enlightenment.

In the summer we also offer a Teen Mindfulness camp. For one week teens from all communities are welcome to camp in our 'outdoor' meditation hall to disconnect from the harmful distractions of life so that they may learn the necessary mindfulness skills to help them navigate the challenges they will face in their adult life.

Also on the last day of each month from May to September we offer Silent Retreats. Here practitioners from all ages and skill levels are invited to sit in silent contemplation, disconnect from their hectic lives so that they may reconnect to their being. A free vegetarian lunch is served as well.

How are we able to provide our services at no cost?

Imagine a child or elderly person falling to the ground and in pain. Would you say 'I'll pick you up off the ground but only if you pay me'?

Of course not. You would assist them up, ask if they were OK, and comfort them as needed.

We are compassionate towards all beings. We have empathy towards all beings. We know that all beings are suffering and we have the means to offer some relief of their suffering. So we do.

We are entirely donation based and warmly welcome all forms of generosity.

Our message?

Simply put, our message, my message, is the same as the Buddhas. It is one of hope. It is one of compassion. It is one of love for all living beings, including yourself.

Birthday Cake
So as you move about your day look at the stranger with welcoming eyes and a warm smile.

Make a donation to a local charity or animal shelter.

Perhaps even embracing 'noble silence' when a stressful situation arises.

Being kind to those that need it is a wonderful way to share in the joy of this Founders day.

Wishing you continued peace and wellbeing,

Vladimir

Acknowledging Your Generosity And Expressing Our Gratitude

Although we practice generosity and gratitude year round, in the United States November is a month where individuals and organizations express these sentiments publicly. These public expressions provide a sense of humbleness and modesty for individuals and organizations show a sense of vulnerability that is not often witnessed in our current society. For we truly know that no one is truly self-sufficient and we all rely upon one another in ways we don't often realize.

Beautiful Path And Sunrise
Below is our acknowledgment to all of you who greatly impact our path and benefit from our offerings:

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As I reflect upon all of the good that's happened over the course of the year I know that it would not have been possible without all of your kindness in both donations and presence. It is important for us to acknowledge your kind generosity and how it has improved the many lives we have touched through our outreach efforts, on-line and in-person events.

The offerings that your generosity have made possible:

▪ Bi-weekly Guided Meditations and Dharma Talks.
▪ Weekly Sangha's: Healing, New Beginnings, Veterans, LQBQT+, and teens.
▪ A summer mindfulness retreat for teens.
▪ Personal guided meditations or mindfulness instruction for an improved life.
▪ Lotus Petals - our monthly news letter.
▪ Several day-long virtual retreats.
▪ Mindfulness and Meditation Teacher Training.
▪ Improved software, equipment and internet technology to warmly reach you.

Group Of Positive Teens
All of these programs and offerings are made possible by you, our practitioners, followers, and dear friends. And all of these offerings are offered without a required fee. As you may recall we are entirely donation based.

We provide these offerings solely to promote lovingkindness in a world that is in need of love and compassion. In other words we do what we do based on the Buddhist idea of dana.

Generosity and charity always positively affects at least two people, the giver and the receiver. Generosity allows the recipient to feel seen, cared for, a sense of security, and valued in a world where they may feel otherwise. Generosity from the giver allows them not only to earn merit but to know that they are helping a person or family live with a sense of security, peace, and wellbeing. The giver has made a difference in some ones life and what better way to foster and cultivate lovingkindness in our world.

As we begin to close out this calendar year we sincerely want to express our gratitude to all you for your support and look forward to your kind presence in the future.

For ways you may like to support our efforts please see visit our website at: www.blulotusmeditation.us.

Wishing you continued peace and wellbeing,

Vladimir

The Real World: A Mindful Perspective

I remember growing up as a child my parents, teachers, and other adult authority figures telling us how easy we have and to 'just wait until you get into the real world'. At my age I've been in the 'real world' for quite some time and have seen and experienced a lot.

Mother, Child, Parents

After graduating high school, enlisting in the Marines, married, children, university, career...well several careers at this point, only to arrive at where I am at this moment. And after all I've seen, done, gained, lost, laughed, cried, loved, disagreed with, learned, forgotten, and relearned, I came to realization that the 'real' world is entirely perspective.

As I look back with mindful reflection I've realized that each moment of my life, from birth to this present moment has been the real world.

Each perceived moment of my real world was been based on my experiences and then perceiving those experiences based on how I thought they should be, not how they were. My perceptions were biased with cravings and desires. So in essence each moment of my childhood was my real world. Each moment of my adolescence was my real world. Each moment of my adult life was my real world.

At each stage of my life I was living my real world. Not my teachers, not my parents, not my friends, nor your real world. This realization was not truly unveiled to me until I had been a mindfulness practitioner for at least several months.

So how does the 'real' world affect our decisions and actions.

Consider this - rain.

Rain is simply rain. It is soothing, nurturing, and certainly essential for life.

Wet Grass

Not too far from where are meditation center is located in the south, they are experiencing a moderate drought. Not too alarming at this time but still something to be mindful of.

So when any rain does occur, farmers are joyful that their crops, for which they depend on to live, are receiving this nurturing event.

But now consider a happy couple who have planned for months of a spectacular outdoor wedding and reception. If by chance you've ever planned a wedding some may be very extravagant but all are prepared with care and love.

When this very same rain event occurs those involved with the planning, especially the bride and groom on their special day, are saddened. They feel all of this planning has now been washed away with the rain.

Outdoor Wedding
So what was the difference between the two parties? Perspective resulting form cravings and desires. One is a joyful and welcome event while the other was 'disastrous'. Regardless of perspective we can mindfully look at this, the rain is out of our control.

Our perspective shaped our real world. And very often without sincere reflection of events people tend to shape their real world negatively. Now, this bride and groom may never plan an outdoor event due to even the possibility of rain. And this negative view point can be carried on to many people they encounter. Their experience shaped their 'real' world.

So at this time I warmly invite you to offer some other examples in the comments below where experiences shape some ones 'real' world perception.

And with that my friends I wish you all peace and ease,

Vladimir

Generosity, Charity, and Mindfulness

One of the Buddhas quotes on generosity states that 'Generosity brings happiness at every stage of its expression. We experience joy in forming the intention to be generous. We experience joy in the actual act of giving something. And we experience joy in remembering the fact that we have given' describes all of the benefits that this action offers.

Before every action we do, no matter how small or large, there is a thought. And this though is the inception of what comes next, the action. And as with all thought what we water is what begins to bloom.

Giving A Plant

When we water this thought, the upcoming generous action for example, we begin to allow our minds to picture the joyful reaction of the recipient.

We are allowing ourselves to be vulnerable for a moment. We allow ourselves to show another human being kindness and recognition for who they are.

And it is with these good and kind thoughts that we develop ourselves into more compassionate human beings.

Family members and others with whom we often interact are most often the beneficiaries of these kind acts but how often do we expand our generosity to others that we may never even know their first names?

Probably not as much as we would like.

So let me ask this question: what's stopping you?

Maybe you don't feel your generosity will truly help the other person.

Maybe you feel you won't get the 'thank you' you deserve.

Perhaps you even feel that other's are less deserving or not deserving at all.

Suppose I ask you to consider this, that the inception of generosity is just as rewarding as the giving and the remembering that we gave. Wouldn't that be enough to show more generosity to others?

Joy
Perhaps the good deed only isn't the deed itself but the very sincere thought of the deed.

But when we actually do the giving there is a benefit we often overlook, empathy. Why empathy? It's empathy because we recognize the suffering in others, even if we don't see or know them personally.

Perhaps you give to a local orphanage or hospital. You probably don't know any of the children or patience in the hospital but you give to help ease their suffering. And that is empathy.

And each time we give we bring up the fond memories of the previous time we gave which continue to promote the empathy and compassion within.

Compassion and empathy are essential to mindfulness. So as we give generously to others to help ease their suffering we too are learning to ease our own suffering as well.

And with that my friends I wish you all peace and ease,

Vladimir
